Performers: Audition Preparation & Process

For performers:
There is no need to prepare a monologue or audition piece – on the day, you will be provided with character profiles and script excerpts, and auditions will involve auditionees reading for multiple parts alongside other auditionees.

For tech, crew, and Front of House:
Arrive at auditions and express your interest, and one of our Spectrum Theatre crew members will talk you through the various roles available.

Characters

  • Kenneth – Widower, in his 40s (ish).
  • Stephanie – Mother, separated. In her 40s (ish).
  • Dawn – Grandmother, spunky. In her 60s/70s.
  • Lily – Daughter. Dramatic. 16ish.
  • Mike – Ex-husband, prick. In his 40s (ish).

Character Profiles

Ken
Ken is a laidback widower in his forties whose life gets turned upside down when his holiday is crashed by three very special ladies. Ken is a kind hearted character who needs an amazing Albany bloke to bring him to life.

Mike
Mike is a selfish, forty-something, cheating husband and lazy father. He’s not a good guy, but he would be a lot of fun to play.

Stephanie
Stephanie has had it tough lately. Dealing with a grumpy teenage daughter, the loss of her father and a cheating husband has taken its toll but are things about to turn around for her?

Lily
Life is hard for a teenager being dragged to Greece for a holiday with no Wi-Fi! Lily is dramatic and frustrated and willing to try anything to get what she wants.

Dawn
Dawn is a sassy grandmother who isn’t afraid to speak her truth. She loves her family and will do anything to turn things around, even take them on a misguided trip to Greece.

Tech, Crew & Front of House Roles

The backstage and front-of-house roles are essential to a successful production! If you’ve always been interested in being involved in the theatre, but being on stage isn’t quite the involvement you’re looking for, then this is a perfect opportunity.

We are always looking for:

  • Lighting Designers & Lighting Operators
  • Sound Designers & Sound Operators
  • Stage Managers
  • Props Managers
  • Costume Managers
  • Hair & Makeup
  • Front of House Crew

Experience in these roles is not essential: if it is something you’d like to try, then we can arrange for you to “shadow” one of members with previous experience to help guide and train you during the rehearsal process.

You can find out more about these roles here.
