Spectrum Theatre was founded by Nick and Carol Doulis in 1979, and was first located at the Vancouver Arts Centre, but moved to its current location of Proudlove Parade in 1980, into the building known as the “The Old Post Office”.
Although the Spectrum Theatre company now uses Spectrum Theatre as its venue exclusively, there was a time where Spectrum Theatre also put on productions in the Albany Town Hall in York Street, in the old theatre space that existed there before the renovations in 2019-2020.
Spectrum Theatr has put on over a hundred different productions since its first, From Bagdad to Leningrad, in January, 1981.
